Product Features
At room temperature, OAB is a colorless to light yellow transparent viscous liquid. It is readily soluble in water with excellent solubility. In acidic media (low pH), it exhibits cationic properties, while in alkaline media (high pH) it displays anionic behavior, allowing stable compatibility with various surfactants over a wide pH range. When combined with anionic surfactants, OAB demonstrates a more pronounced thickening effect compared to alkyl betaines such as CAB, especially under acidic conditions where it enables a sharp increase in solution viscosity, facilitating rheological control.
OAB effectively reduces surface tension and interfacial tension, achieving ultralow interfacial tension with crude oil (down to the order of 10-3 mN/m). It exhibits mild performance and can reduce the irritation caused by anionic surfactants. OAB shows good compatibility with anionic, cationic, nonionic, and other amphoteric surfactants. It possesses good foaming and foam-stabilizing capabilities, along with effective antistatic properties. Additionally, OAB demonstrates favorable biodegradability and low biological toxicity.
Application
Oil and Gas Field Development (Core Application Field):
OAB can self-assemble to form wormlike micelles, which entangle to create a spatial network structure, macroscopically exhibiting viscoelastic properties similar to those of polymer solutions. As an effective viscoelastic surfactant, OAB is widely used in matrix acidizing and fracturing operations in oilfields. It provides high viscosity, high elasticity, low friction, and easy flowback. During acid fracturing and acidizing processes, OAB generates abundant wormlike micelles that interweave to form a transient three-dimensional network structure, sharply increasing the viscosity of the working fluid. This helps seal micro-fractures, reduces fluid loss, and significantly extends the penetration distance of the acid.
OAB can achieve ultra-low oil-water interfacial tension without the need for any additives. In terms of both interfacial tension reduction and emulsification capability, this surfactant is an excellent enhanced oil recovery agent.
Personal Care and Household Products: Used in shampoos, body washes, hand soaps, etc., as a thickener, conditioning agent, wetting agent, and antistatic agent, providing rich foam and reducing formulation irritation.
Other Industrial Applications:
Textile Industry: Used as a softening agent and dye migration inhibitor.
