Product Features

At room temperature, 1831 exists as a colorless to pale yellow transparent colloid, liquid, or white powder. Its appearance and form vary significantly depending on the content. It is readily soluble in water, ethanol, and isopropanol aqueous solutions. Agitating an aqueous solution of 1831 generates abundant foam, and it exhibits excellent penetration, softening, emulsifying, antistatic, and bactericidal disinfection properties. Its long carbon chain structure endows it with remarkable effects in adsorption, softening, and emulsification. The quaternary ammonium salt structure is highly stable, resistant to acids, alkalis, and heat, and not prone to hydrolysis. Unlike primary amines, tertiary amines, and other substances that are easily protonated by acids, its positive charge is permanent. 1831 ionizes completely in aqueous solutions to produce positively charged quaternary ammonium cations [C₁₆H₃₃N(CH₃)₃]⁺and chloride ions Cl⁻. It can exert strong electrostatic interactions with negatively charged substances (such as anionic surfactants, proteins, bacterial cell membranes, and negatively charged solid particles), typically resulting in precipitation or flocculation. Furthermore, 1831 possesses a certain degree of biodegradability and is environmentally friendly.

Application

Daily Chemicals and Personal Care:In hair conditioners and shampoos, it serves as the primary conditioning agent, adsorbing onto negatively charged hair to deliver effects of smoothness, antistatic protection, and ease of combing. It is also used as a bactericide and emollient.

Organic Bentonite Modifier:It is an important raw material for organic bentonite modifiers. Low-content grades are applied in the bentonite field to reduce the discharge of organic wastewater.

Textile Industry:It acts as a fabric softener to impart fluffiness and softness to fabrics, and as an antistatic agent to prevent static electricity generation in synthetic fibers during processing.

Industrial and Agricultural Additives:As an emulsifier, it is used in the production of cationic emulsified asphalt for road paving and maintenance; it is also applied in the emulsification of waterproof coatings, as an auxiliary for glass fiber softening processing, and as a silicone oil emulsifier. The general specification requires an active substance content of ≥40%.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, 1831 is irritating to the skin and eyes. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin or eyes contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

It should be sealed and stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated indoor place, protected from moisture and strictly guarded against exposure to sunlight.
