Product Features

 

The key features of TMPDA are mainly determined by the two tertiary amino groups in its molecule and the bridge chain length of three methylene groups. It possesses high alkalinity, volatility, flammability, and air sensitivity, requiring careful handling.




Application

 

The applications of TMPDA overlap with those of TMEDA, but it is generally not the first choice and is only used for specific requirements.

Organic Synthesis: Used to activate organolithium reagents. Due to the different stability between the formed six-membered ring chelate and the five-membered ring formed by TMEDA, it may bring distinct reaction selectivity and polymer microstructure.

Polyurethane IndustryThis is a very important and unique application of TMPDA. It can be used as a catalyst for the production of flexible high-resilience polyurethane foam. The two terminal tertiary amino groups in its molecule exhibit high catalytic activity, while the molecule itself can participate in the reaction as a crosslinking agent or chain extender and be "immobilized" in the polymer network, thereby reducing the volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions of the product and improving the odor of the foam.

Epoxy Resin Curing Agent:TMPDA acts as a curing agent for epoxy resins, and its long-chain structure may endow the cured product with better flexibility.

Other Applications:TMPDA serves as an intermediate for the synthesis of other chemicals.TMPDA is used in the preparation of specific metal complexes in electrochemistry and materials science.




Safety and Storage

 

From a safety perspective, it has an extremely low flash point, and its vapors can form explosive mixtures when mixed with air. Inhalation of the vapors is harmful, so operations must be performed in an effective fume hood, and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be strictly worn during handling.  In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

It should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources and heat. Containers must be kept tightly sealed. It should be stored separately from strong oxidants and acids.
