Under ambient temperature and pressure, DMA1270 is a colorless and transparent oily liquid. It is poorly soluble in water but miscible with most organic solvents including ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone and benzene. The tertiary amine group in its molecule can react with alkylating agents such as methyl chloride, benzyl chloride and dimethyl sulfate to produce various cationic quaternary ammonium salt surfactants. It is capable of reacting with hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) to form dodecyldimethylamine oxide, a mild amphoteric surfactant. Additionally, it can react with reagents like sodium chloroacetate to generate dodecyl betaine, a zwitterionic surfactant. The quaternary ammonium salts, amine oxides and betaines synthesized from DMA1270 generally exhibit excellent properties such as strong bactericidal activity, good softness, antistatic performance and abundant stable foam.

Application

Cationic Surfactants：Examples include 1227 (benzalkonium chloride), a broad-spectrum and highly efficient bactericidal disinfectant. It is widely used for disinfection in hospitals, restaurants and swimming pools, as well as a bactericidal algaecide and slime stripper in industrial water treatment. 1231 (dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride) can also be used as a fabric softener, antistatic agent and pigment dispersant.

Zwitterionic Surfactants：A typical example is dodecyl/tetradecyl betaine (BS-1214), which has excellent mildness, thickening properties and foam stability, and serves as a key ingredient in high-end personal care products such as shampoos, body washes and facial cleansers.

Dodecyl/tetradecyl dimethylamine oxide (OA-1214) is mild, low-irritating, and produces fine and stable foam. It acts as an excellent foaming agent and foam stabilizer in products like dish detergents, shampoos and body washes.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, DMA1270 is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin or eyes contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents.Store separately from incompatible substances such as acids.
