Under normal temperature and pressure, DMA1218 is a colorless, transparent oily liquid with a special amine-like odor. It is insoluble in water but easily soluble in most organic solvents. The tertiary amine group (-N(CH3)2) in its molecule enables it to react with alkylating agents such as methyl chloride, benzyl chloride, and dimethyl sulfate to form quaternary ammonium salts. It can react with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) under mild conditions to produce amine oxides (mild amphoteric surfactants). It also reacts with sodium chloroacetate to generate betaines (zwitterionic surfactants). These quaternary ammonium salts, amine oxides, betaines, and other derivatives prepared using DMA1218 as the raw material generally exhibit excellent properties such as strong bactericidal activity, softening effect, antistatic performance, and rich, stable foam. The molecular structure of DMA1218 contains both a hydrophilic amino group and a lipophilic long-chain alkyl group, endowing itself and its derivatives with good surface activity and the ability to effectively reduce surface tension. In addition, DMA1218 is derived from widely available raw materials, mainly natural coconut oil or palm kernel oil, which are renewable and offer relatively stable costs.




Application

 

Cationic SurfactantsExamples include 1227 (benzalkonium chloride), a broad-spectrum and highly efficient bactericidal disinfectant. It is widely used for disinfection in hospitals, restaurants and swimming pools, as well as a bactericidal algaecide and slime stripper in industrial water treatment. 1231 (dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride) can also be used as a fabric softener, antistatic agent and pigment dispersant.

Zwitterionic SurfactantsA typical example is betaine, which boasts excellent mildness, thickening properties and foam stability, and acts as a key ingredient in high-end personal care products such as shampoos, body washes and facial cleansers.Amine Oxidesthey are mild, low-irritating, and produce fine and stable foam. These compounds serve as excellent foaming agents and foam stabilizers in products including dish detergents, shampoos and body washes.




Safety and Storage

 

From a safety perspective, DMA1218 is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin or eyes contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents.Store separately from incompatible substances such as acids.
