At room temperature, DMA1618 exists as a colorless to slightly yellow paste or transparent liquid with a faint amine odor. Its physical form is temperature-dependent: it turns into a liquid at higher temperatures and converts to a paste or solid at lower temperatures. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, isopropanol, benzene and chloroform. DMA1618 can react with alkylating agents including methyl chloride and benzyl chloride to produce various cationic quaternary ammonium salt surfactants (e.g., 1627, 1631, 1827, 1831). It can also react with sodium chloroacetate to yield alkyl betaines (e.g., BS-1618). Its mixed C16/C18 carbon chain structure endows the downstream products with excellent surface activity, emulsifying properties, softness and moderate foaming characteristics.

Application

DMA1618 serves as a core intermediate for manufacturing a variety of high-performance surfactants, with highly focused and critical applications.

Surfactant Synthesis:It can be used to prepare quaternary ammonium salts (e.g., cetyl/octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride 1631/1831, cetyl/octadecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride 1627/1827), amine oxides (OB-6/OB-8) and betaines (BS-1618). These surfactants exhibit bactericidal, softening, antistatic and emulsifying properties.

Daily Chemical and Personal Care Industry:Its derivatives act as key ingredients in products such as shampoos, hair conditioners and body washes, performing conditioning, antistatic and thickening functions.

Textile Auxiliaries:It is used as fabric softeners and antistatic agents to improve the hand feel of fabrics.

Oilfield Chemicals:It serves as bactericides, emulsifiers and corrosion inhibitors for oilfield exploitation.

Asphalt Emulsifiers:It is applied in road construction.

Other Applications:It can also be used as mineral flotation agents and resin curing agents, among other uses.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, DMA1618 is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin or eyes contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents.Store separately from incompatible substances such as acids.
