At room temperature, DMA1816 exists as a colorless to slightly yellow paste or transparent liquid with a faint amine odor. Its physical form is significantly temperature-dependent: it turns into a liquid at higher temperatures (e.g., in summer) and converts to a paste or solid at lower temperatures, with a freezing point of ≤21℃. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, isopropanol, benzene and chloroform. DMA1816 can react with alkylating agents including methyl chloride, benzyl chloride and dimethyl sulfate to produce various cationic quaternary ammonium salt surfactants (e.g., 1827, 1831, 1831MS). It also serves as a universal intermediate for the synthesis of zwitterionic and nonionic surfactants. In addition, its mixed C18/C16 carbon chain structure can balance the surface activity, emulsifying properties and softness of the resultant products.

Application

Surfactant Synthesis：This is its core application. DMA1816 is used to prepare quaternary ammonium salts (e.g., octadecyl/cetyl trimethyl ammonium chloride 1831, octadecyl/cetyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride 1827, octadecyl/cetyl dimethyl methyl sulfate 1831MS). These surfactants exhibit bactericidal, softening, antistatic and emulsifying properties.

Daily Chemical and Personal Care Industry：Derivatives of DMA1816 serve as key ingredients in products such as shampoos, hair conditioners and body washes, performing conditioning, antistatic and thickening functions.

Industrial Applications：It acts as a modifier for organic bentonite.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, DMA1816 is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin or eyes contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents.Store separately from incompatible substances such as acids.
