Product Features

DMA22 is a white solid or a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid/paste at room temperature, and its form is temperature-dependent. Melting point: approximately 44℃. It is insoluble in water but easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, isopropanol, benzene, and chloroform. As a versatile intermediate for synthesizing cationic surfactants, it can react with alkylating agents (e.g., methyl chloride, dimethyl sulfate) to produce various cationic quaternary ammonium salt surfactants (such as 2231, BTMAC, BTMS). The C22 long carbon chain of DMA22 endows the downstream products with excellent hydrophobicity, adsorptivity, and durability, making it particularly suitable for the preparation of hair care conditioners and softeners.

Application

The core application of DMA22 lies in the preparation of quaternary ammonium salts, such as docosyltrimethylammonium chloride (2231), benzyltrimethylammonium chloride (BTMAC), and behentrimonium methosulfate (BTMS). These surfactants serve as key ingredients in products like shampoos, hair conditioners, and body washes, performing functions of conditioning, antistatic protection, and thickening.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, DMA22 is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin or eyes contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents.Store separately from incompatible substances such as acids.
