Product Features

Tetradecylamine exists as a white to pale pink or slightly yellow waxy solid or crystal at room temperature. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in most organic solvents, with a melting point of 38–40°C and can be melted into a liquid upon heating. Boasting a flash point of >110°C, it is classified as a combustible substance yet not easily ignited. One end of the molecule features an oil-loving long carbon chain, while the other end contains a water-loving amino group—this structure renders it an excellent intermediate for surfactants. The primary amino group in the molecule imparts alkaline properties to the substance. Additionally, tetradecylamine is air-sensitive and absorbs carbon dioxide, but exhibits good thermal stability.

Application

Surfactants: As a key raw material, it is used in the production of nonionic surfactants, which are applied in antistatic agents, detergents, and emulsifiers.

Lubricating Oil Additives: Enhances the anti-wear and rust-preventive properties of lubricating oils.

Mineral Flotation Agents: Utilized in the mining industry for separating valuable minerals.

Chemical Fertilizer Anti-Caking Agents: Prevents agglomeration of chemical fertilizer granules.

Textile Auxiliaries: Serves as a softener and antistatic agent.

Other Fields: Also used in coatings, plastic processing, and as a synthetic raw material for fungicides.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, it is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents, and separated from incompatible substances such as acids.
