Coco amines exist as white solids or colorless to pale yellow liquids at room temperature, with a characteristic ammoniacal odor or grease-like scent. The terminal primary amino groups (-NH₂) confer basicity, enabling them to react with acids to form corresponding amine salts. Possessing both hydrophilic amino groups and hydrophobic long-chain alkyl groups, coco amines effectively reduce surface tension; furthermore, the amino groups can undergo various reactions, rendering them versatile intermediates for the synthesis of numerous fine chemicals. Additionally, due to their specific mixed carbon chain length distribution (C12-C18), they achieve an excellent balance in water solubility, surface activity, adsorptivity, and other key properties.

Application

Surfactant Intermediates:React with ethylene oxide to produce nonionic surfactants, which serve as antistatic agents. Widely applied in antistatic formulations for industries such as PE/PP (polyethylene/polypropylene), chemical fiber spinning oils, and plastic films.

Mineral Flotation Agents:Function as collectors for the flotation separation of minerals including potash salts and silicates.

Others:Also extensively used as asphalt emulsifiers, grease thickeners, antistatic agents, pigment dispersants, and other functional additives.

Safety and Storage

From a safety perspective, it is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.

In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.

Stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition, heat, and oxidizing agents, and separated from incompatible substances such as acids.
