Product Features
Bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine is a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid with a pungent ammoniacal odor. It is sparingly soluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents, and has a relatively high boiling point (281 °C). It is stable at room temperature, yet may decompose to produce nitrogen oxides when exposed to high temperatures (> 200 °C).
As a secondary amine, bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine exhibits moderate basicity. It can react with acids to form corresponding salts, and readily undergoes nucleophilic substitution reactions with halogenated hydrocarbons to generate quaternary ammonium salt compounds. It forms coordination complexes with metal ions, thus being suitable for extraction and separation applications. Being sensitive to oxidizing agents, it is prone to oxidation into nitrogen oxides.
Application
Surfactant intermediate: Used in the synthesis of anionic and nonionic surfactants for applications in detergents, cosmetics, and lubricants; also employed in the preparation of quaternary ammonium salt surfactants, which are applied in oilfield chemicals and textile auxiliaries.
Metal extractant: Enables the selective extraction of rare earth elements (e.g., lanthanide metals), copper, nickel, etc., for hydrometallurgical processes. It is also used in ore flotation to separate metallic minerals and improve recovery rates.
Emulsifier: Utilized for preparing stable emulsions, with applications in coatings, inks, and pesticide formulations. It also serves as a thickener and stabilizer in cosmetics.
Rubber and plastic additive: Acts as a vulcanization accelerator and anti-aging agent to enhance the performance of rubber products. It is also used in the synthesis of materials such as polyamides and polyurethanes.
Dye and pigment intermediate: Participates in the synthesis of azo dyes, phthalocyanine pigments, etc.
Safety and Storage
Bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine is highly irritating to the skin, eyes, and respiratory tract. It has a flash point of 106.9 °C, and its vapor can form an explosive mixture when mixed with air (explosion limits: 0.6%–3.7%).Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.
In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes and seek medical assistance.
Store in a cool, well-ventilated place, away from oxidizing agents and strong acids.Keep container tightly sealed.
Packaging
