Product Features
Diisotridecylamine is a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid under normal temperature and pressure, with a pungent odor characteristic of amines. It has an extremely high boiling point of approximately 455.2 °C (at atmospheric pressure), which renders it relatively stable at elevated temperatures and resistant to volatilization and decomposition. With a flash point of around 157.8 °C, it is classified as a combustible liquid but poses a relatively low hazard risk. It is sparingly soluble in water while readily soluble in most organic solvents.
The secondary amino group (-NH-) in the molecular structure of diisotridecylamine endows the compound with moderate basicity. Meanwhile, it can act as a ligand to undergo coordination reactions with certain metal ions, or serve as an organic synthesis intermediate to participate in further chemical transformations. The two bulky isotridecyl groups induce a significant steric hindrance effect, which endows the reactions involving diisotridecylamine with enhanced selectivity and unique reaction pathways. Its long carbon chain structure imparts strong lipophilicity and hydrophobicity, making it suitable for oil-based systems or applications requiring surface activity.
Application
Surfactants and Additives: It can be used as an intermediate or direct component in the production of special surfactants, lubricating oil additives, cosmetic emulsifiers, etc. Its branched-chain structure helps improve the permeability and compatibility of products.
Organic Synthesis Intermediate: In the pharmaceutical and pesticide fields, diisotridecylamine serves as a key intermediate for synthesizing certain nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds or functional amine derivatives.
Extractant: Leveraging its coordination capacity with metal ions, diisotridecylamine is used as a metal extraction and separation agent in hydrometallurgy or analytical chemistry.
Safety and Storage
From a safety perspective, it is irritating and corrosive to the skin and eyes, and contact may cause burns.Inhalation of its vapor or mist is harmful. Despite its relatively high flash point, it is still classified as a combustible liquid and should be kept away from ignition sources. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling to avoid direct contact.
